Visit from Hidden Oaks Nature Center

Fall is in full force here in Northern Virginia! The leaves are vibrant and falling all around. We've seen busy squirrels around the school collecting nuts and preparing for winter. This month at St George's Preschool we had a visit from Fairfax Parks' Hidden Oaks Nature Center, where we learned all about how animals get ready for Winter.

We were treated to a puppet show where we followed forest friends - a bat, a squirrel, a frog, and more - as they get ready for winter. We learned that some animals hibernate, and some migrate. We even learned why the leaves change color, which trees lose their leaves in the Fall, and which ones don't. We even got to see a real life toad!

From fire department visits to nature programs to holiday celebrations, each month we have an in-house field trip or special event to expand our learning opportunities and community connections. Thanks to Hidden Oaks and the Fairfax County Park Authority for coming to teach us this time!
